Problem Note 36029: Error: The user, SAS Administrator, could not log on to the server, SASApp-Logical Workspace Server, doing a TEST CONNECTION for SAS Workspace Server
The following error message might be received when you validate the logical SAS Workspace Server in SAS® 9.2.
Error: The user "SAS Administrator" could not log on to the server "SASApp - Logical Workspace Server"
To reproduce the error, follow these steps:
- Log on to SAS® Management Console as unrestricted user (typically SASADM).
- Go to: Server Manager ► SASApp ► SASApp - Logical Workspace Server
- Right click on SASApp - Logical Workspace Server and select Validate.
-
At the prompt, supply a host account that is not registered in the SAS® Metadata Repository and therefore will be authenicated as a PUBLIC user.
- Click on the Details button to view the detailed error messages. They will be similiar to:
SEVERE: Client user@vista64 does not have permission to use server SASApp - Workspace Server.
SEVERE: The application could not log on to the server machine name 8591.
SEVERE: The user "SAS Administrator" could not log on to the server "SASApp - Logical Workspace Server".
This error will occur because the user is not properly registered in SAS® Metadata Repository.
Since the SAS® Metadata identity (login) is not correct or missing, the connection is being established as Public, but will fail, however since the group Public does not have access to
the SAS Application Server or SASApp.
To circumvent this problem, the user's account must correspond to a SAS Metadata identity (login) that has
the ReadMetadata permission for the server definition.
For Windows, make sure the SAS Metadata identity is using the fully qualified user name,
such as domain\user or machine\user.
Once you create an identity in the SAS Metadata Repository, you must stop and re–start the object spawner. Once the object spawner is re–started, go back into the SAS Management Console and repeat the steps above to perform the VALIDATION again.
